From duplex penthouse to fine dining
Painting a top notch and exquisite style, no wonder Mr Chew’s Chino Latino has been the ‘it’ restaurant as it was brought to you by the same team behind Troika Sy Dining. Transforming a duplex penthouse into an insta-worthy space for food and cocktails, they are located on the top level of WOLO Hotel. With the splash of art-deco thrown in, we can’t get our eyes off the towering hand-painted mural – an iconic portrait of Empress Dowager Cixi that is nicely hanged behind the bar. Hence, the ambience leaves you feeling like you’re in Manhattan with a touch of 1920s Shanghai jazz era.
Inspired from the fun and free spirt Latin American sister, Fuego, Mr Chew focuses on Asian menu while incorporating the south side ingredients such as avocado and tacos. Lead by Executive Chef James Thong and Chef Ivan Ong, the food carries a bold and flavourful taste with a punch of cheekiness. It’s very uncommon to see a restaurant shares a playful combination in both menu and environment.
To enjoy a little bit of everything on the menu, its better to order for sharing. Famous for its nori taco with sushi rice, salmon belly, salmon roe and tobikio mayo, this Mexican hit of a maki roll is highly addictive. Mr Chew’s Special Fried Rice (cooked with 5 different grains – black, red, brown, basmati and fragrant rice) and pan seared barramundi with laksa broth + avocado inside it are are few of the dishes that you shouldn’t miss! It’s incredible they are capable of reinventing new passion in classic dishes.
As for cocktails, indulge yourself in the guava and pink peppercorn G&T as it comes in a cool takeaway box. You might even fancy cocktails made with roasted matcha, chocolate milk, tonka bean infused in variety of wines.
To end your meal, Mr Chew’s restaurant wouldn’t be complete without their delectable flavour dessert tacos while overlooking Bukit Bintang on the sofa lounges.
