Rebung, a renowned Malay restaurant in KL that offers daily buffets including lunch, hi-tea and dinner is co-founded by celebrity chef, Ismail Ahmad and Malaysia’s first astronaut, Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar. Tantalising your taste-buds with a sumptuous spread of Malay and not to mention paying one price, Rebung dishes are mostly Negeri Sembilan-inspired so try anything that is labeled with ‘lemak cili api’ or ‘tempoyak’ as these are synonymous with the state.  Here are some of the highlights that you should try when visiting Rebung.

Siput Sedut
Siput sidut or shell fish cooked in curry. It’s fun sucking that delicious and juicy soft flesh and gut out of that spiral shell. It takes a bit of skill and technique but most people will master it in no time.

Daging Salai
The daging salai (smoked/cured beef) masak lemak was exceptionally good as the beef was tender and soaked up the gravy beautifully.

Tempoyak Ikan Patin
Of course not forgetting our little superstar here, the must try tempoyak ikan which was light and flavourful. It’s best if you eat this dish with sambal belacan on the side.

Asam Pedas Ikan Pari
The stingray asam pedas is another staple, with a gravy that looks more potent than it actually is. It manages to extract the wonderful chilli flavour without so much of the heat, perfectly complementing the fresh and tender pieces of stingray and soft-stewed cuts of lady’s fingers
