Damansara has always been the go-to place for cafes and restaurants, but it’s never synonym to cheap eats or hawker centres. That’s how most people see Damansara, but real Damansara people know that right at the heart of the city, lies a gem that has been serving foodies for decades: Damansara Uptown Hawker Centre.
1. Steven’s Western Corner
Steven’s Western Corner is one of the OGs of the Hawker Centre, who has been at the centre for about 20 years. The stall is one of the first ‘street western’ joints in Damansara that offers western food like chicken chop, lamb chop and fish & chips. Steven’s is so legendary, we bet that even your parents had dates here. Cuba ask them!
2. Ah Keong Yong Tau Foo
‘Terima kasih, datang lagi!’ is the greet that you’ll always hear after paying for your bowl of yong tau foo at Ah Keong Yong Tau Foo. Ah Keong’s selection of yong tau foo treats are diverse, but his champion item will always be his crispy fish cakes with soy and chili gravy, sprinkled with sesame. You’ll also be greeted by a long line, though!
3. Lanun Steak
Apart from Steven’s Western Corner, Lanun Steak also pulls a big crowd of street western food lovers. Their specialty is the portion of the meals as Lanun prepares their steaks and chops with a few different sides. What’s nice as well, is the selection of gravy you can choose from!
4. Bintang Sue
Bintang Sue is located at the east end of the hawker centre. Even though it’s pretty far and a bit secluded, Bintang Sue’s sitting area is often packed with hungry seafood and chinese cuisine lovers. Their best dishes? Sotong goreng and ginger beef with rice!
If you don’t want to travel too far for seafood, then Avalala should be your destination. Avalala serves your classic favourites: salted egg squid, ikan 3 rasa, tomyam and other chinese style seafood dishes. Avalala is a mainstay at the centre, so expect a crowd if you’re there around peak hours!
