We all have heard of it. It’s one of the most important sports events held in Malaysia each year. That’s right, you guessed it. It’s “Le Tour de Langkawi 2020 (LTdL20)”. Over 25 years, it has amazed spectators with its competitive cyclists and challenging routes that will knock you right off your seats! This year’s LTdL20 will kick off today, from 6th until 15th February 2020, according to its organizer, Petronas.
The 8-day cycling race will tour around nine states in Malaysia with a total of 1100 kilometers in distance. Travelling through all terrains – towns, cities, highlands and villages – it’ll wow the local spectators by giving them a marvelous sight to see as well as highlighting popular tourism destinations. LTdL20 will be visiting, in chronological order – Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu, Pahang, Federal Territories (Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur), Selangor, Perak, Penang and finally, Kedah – to end where it all began, Langkawi!
Le Tour de Langkawi has been the longest standing cycling race in Asia and this year, it has earned its place on the Professional Series (ProSeries) the World Tour and is accredited for Europe’s Pro Continental teams. The race will also add on a secondary course, the Criterium International, which serves the Under-23 (U23) category of riders with a UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) elite-racing license, aside from the main race, the Malaysia Classic.
This year’s multi-stage cycling event commemorates its 25th edition, reaching its silver jubilee under the theme of “Sports Unite, Cycling Contributes.” Many activities will be held nationwide, starting from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Dubbed as the “Race of the Champions”, it would feature the national champions from around the world competing around the scenic aesthetics of Malaysia while cycling in an intense, exceptional race for the battle of the best.
