Searching for Kelantanese food is easy, but authentic Kelantanese? Now that’s a sport on its own. Especially in a place like Shah Alam, where Kelantanese restaurants are as common as mamak restaurants.
Out of the Abes in Shah Alam, one Abe decided to open Restoran Dapur Abe, a place for all the Abes and Kelantanese people to gather and feel like home.
Restoran Dapur Abe serves perfectly blue nasi kerabu, that’s so far the crowd’s favourite during lunch hours. The nasi kerabu can also be paired with kambing bakar, even though the pairing may be quite unconventional.
But for me, what sets Restoran Dapur Abe apart from other Kelantanese restaurants, is the ikan singgang dish. It’s no ordinary ikan singgang, because this one is so good, they call it Ikan Singgang Power. Ikan singgang is best enjoyed with fried egg, budu, belacan and steamed white rice.
Aside from ikan singgang and nasi kerabu, they also serve other dishes like ayam penyet, lele penyet, bawal penyet and kambing bakar. Amazingly, they also have breakfast food with roti canai cheese being the attention stealer among the early risers.
